Horizontal Balancing Machines

Combination drive horizontal balancing machine

Horizontal balancing machines have the rotor mounted horizontally on them. They are usually supported on two supports and are driven through the use of a belt drive or an end drive arrangement. The balancing on a horizontal balancing machine can be done in two planes or on a single plane.

Balancing machines are available for components ranging from few hundred grams to many thousand kilograms.

Precibalance horizontal hard bearing balancing machines come with the following features standard to enable users to have a quick and easy operation

  • Permanently calibrated balancing electronics. The balancing machine electronics transparently handles balancing at various speeds to always give precise results.
  • Optical non contact RPM sensor. Laser RPM sensor is supplied standard. Special applications may use other sensors.
  • Remote angle electronic protractor function using rotary encoder is supplied standard to enable the balancing machine operator to quickly and precisely locate the unbalance.
  • Automatic calibration function for quick, accurate and automatic calibration of the balancing machine.
  • Automatic positioning function at unbalance location optionally available
  • Versatile drive arrangement options possible. End drive, belt drive or a combination drive consisting of end drive and a belt drive on the same machine is available. Other drives such as self powered drive, pneumatic drives can also be integrated on Precibalance horizontal balancing machines due to the modular nature of the machine.

A belt drive balancing machine uses a belt for rotating the rotor on the balancing machine. The advantage of the belt drive is the error from the thin relatively weightless belt is low giving more precise balancing results compared to an end drive with universal shaft coupling. The belt drive arrangement is ideal for rotors where there is space available to mount a belt, the traction requirements are moderate and higher accuracy is required.

A Precibalance belt drive balancing machine comes equipped with remote angle electronic protractor function as a standard feature. This makes the determination of the unbalance angle effortless. The quick release tensioner and the belt drive arrangement enables quick and easy setting of the belts on the rotor.

The RPM sensor is a non contact optical/laser reflective type sensor enabling easy setting of RPM sensor for unbalance measurement.

An end drive balancing machine uses an universal shaft to couple the drive with the rotor being balanced. This type of drive is particularly suitable for cases where there is no provision to mount a belt, positive drive without slippage or a high torque is required to rotate the rotor.

The balancing machine comes with variable speed drive to enable balancing of the component at optimum speed. Built in software features like tooling error compensation reduce the error appearing from the adapter tooling enabling an accurate balancing.

A combination drive balancing machine has both a belt drive and an end drive on the machine with a common bed and pedestal assembly.

This makes the combo drive balancing machine a versatile option as either type of drive can be selected based on the rotor to be balanced. This is especially useful in general purpose workshop and repair, maintenance and overhaul applications where the type of rotors to be balanced is varied.

Precibalance combination drive balancing machines utilize a common electrical drive selecting the type of drive using a changeover switch. The software and hardware of the Precibalance balancing machine instrumentation natively supports a combination drive balancing machine enabling a seamless change over, setting and balancing operation. The dual encoder provision of the Precibalance balancing electronics, offers remote angle electronic protractor function on both the drives transparently to the operator.
